Share Anonymous Feedback With BetterMe: Q&A With CEO Sterling Mace
Biting my tongue. Walking on eggshells. Adjusting my filter. Whatever you call it, I'm constantly having to do it at work so I'm not telling people how I really feel. Cause if I did, I'd be living on $405 a week.Thankfully, there's a cure.Betterme.com, an online communication and self-improvement startup, allows you to solicit anonymous feedback on yourself. Or, scarier-yet, it allows people to send you unsolicited feedback.Send anonymous feedback by simply inputting the recipient's e-mail address, selecting a category (work, school, social, etc.) and letting the person know what's on your mind. All feedback you give is rated, resulting in a "My Usefulness Rating" (1 - 5).BetterMe Founder and CEO Sterling Mace gives Jobacle readers the skinny on anonymous feedback, and why it’s not as ‘ugly’ as you might think.Q: It doesn't take an MBA from Harvard Business School (and you have one!) to understand that open communication at work is a … [Read more...] about Share Anonymous Feedback With BetterMe: Q&A With CEO Sterling Mace

Quantify Wasteful Meetings With Meet or Die
Meetings are the bane of existence for us office dwelling fools. Countless hours are spent around the conference table. Some people doodle, others daydream. And very rarely does anything actually get accomplished.Former employees from Apple and EA are no strangers to wasteful meetings. That's why they have created Meet or Die, the online tool where you can estimate how much money that meeting just cost the company, and share that info with the world.Just specify the name of your company, the industry you work in, the length of the meeting and the titles of the attendees and sit back as Goolah, the site's mascot, tells you how much money just evaporated into thin air. After the meeting results are calculated, you have the option to share them on the site's homepage. The site is useful if you're looking to kill a few minutes, but I'm still a fan of the Payscale Meeting Miser. … [Read more...] about Quantify Wasteful Meetings With Meet or Die
LinkedIn Working on Interesting Additions
More “Community” for ProfessionalsIf you’ve read my posts (I hope so!), you know I have a love/hate relationship with social media. One the positive side, it’s a great way to connect and be part of a community, share info and can be a useful marketing tool. The negative aspects are wasting too much productivity time on the sites, the danger of posting embarrassing or inappropriate content and the constant barrage of info about people we’ve never met and have zero interest in, etc.Although I admit to not utilizing it much, I do like LinkedIn (no lucrative endorsement going on here, btw) for its professional applications. A former editor actually signed me up without my knowledge, but I have found it helpful. But a recent Wall Street Journal article, LinkedIn Wants Users to Connect More by Scott Morrison, acknowledges that the site lags behind others like Facebook in the community-building utilization by its members. According to the article, LinkedIn is … [Read more...] about LinkedIn Working on Interesting Additions
