Cubicle Fever Warning Signs and Cures

by Werdna Yug Leave a Comment

If you think about it, it's really kinda ironic that, for all of the corporate propaganda about 'openness,' so many of us feel more closed off - more trapped - than ever before. Incidences of claustrophobia seem to have been very much on the rise in recent years, afflicting a broad swath of white-collar types. It appears that we've graduated from the more rural-sounding cabin fever to the more modern and corporate Cubicle Fever. Irrespective, the feeling sucks. The Setting They’ve issued you a cubicle, a 'Herman Miller'esque workspace. A place for you to spend at least seven hours a day; ergonomically designed to ensure that you do what you get paid to do, while occupying the least amount of floor space possible. And, I would add, with the very least amount of human interaction possible. Everyone chained to their computer screen, the silence pretty much only broken by the click-clack of many keyboards. So the feeling of isolation and confinement intensifies,  after all, … [Read more...] about Cubicle Fever Warning Signs and Cures

7 Mindset Changes to Make After College

by Werdna Yug Leave a Comment

The transition from college to the real world does not have to be a brutal shock.  In fact, you should find yourself gaining happiness and satisfaction from new and exciting tasks.  Here are some realizations that will help your transition into a full-time career after college so it is fulfilling and enjoyable. 1. Time management becomes much more important.  When you’re working full-time, little things like getting a haircut and doing your laundry become harder to accomplish with your busy schedule.  You will have to start budgeting your time wisely to get everything done and still have time to relax.  Become efficient at the things you have to do so that you can spend more time doing the things you want to do. 2. It’s more about whom you know than what you know.  Coming from an educational system where you are rewarded with grades for your performance on tests and papers, it may be a pleasant surprise to learn that your social skills are ultimately the most important thing you … [Read more...] about 7 Mindset Changes to Make After College

How Your Safety Is Protected On The Job

by Werdna Yug Leave a Comment

job safety

Safety on the job is not something that people in every career have to worry about. Generally speaking, the most dangerous thing most of us do at work every day is to drive to and from the office every day. But other careers have a much higher danger factor, and it's those positions that call for an extra layer of safety. The exact protections provided depend largely on the exact nature of the hazards involved, but they are all designed to help workers avoid injuries of all kinds, from the most minor to the fatal. … [Read more...] about How Your Safety Is Protected On The Job

How Not To Behave at The Office Halloween Party!

by Werdna Yug 1 Comment

halloween at work

The office Halloween party can be a great time to have some fun at the workplace. It gives you a chance to interact with your colleagues and can be a great staff morale booster. Although it's a time you can relax and enjoy not thinking about work for a few hours, there are still expected ways to behave and certain behaviors that should be avoided. Wearing provocative, offensive or scantily clad costumes Halloween parties are a great time for dressing up but at the office, it's best to dress in imaginative and creative costumes, rather than outfits more likely to shock or cause offense. Getting drunk The witches brew may be flowing but drinking too much can lower your inhibitions leading to behavior you'll quite possibly regret the next day. It can impair your judgement skills, which could result in some poor decisions or inappropriate behavior and can also affect other people’s perceptions of you; although some might find your drunken antics amusing and entertaining, others … [Read more...] about How Not To Behave at The Office Halloween Party!

Florida’s Unique Approach to Talent Development

by Werdna Yug Leave a Comment

talent

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Enterprise Florida for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine. When you hear the word "cape" you probably automatically think of a superhero. Well in the state of Florida CAPE isn't exactly a superhero, but it is a program that has the ability to grow Florida Talent! The Career and Professional Education Act (CAPE) was created in Florida to form a partnership between businesses and the education community, with the goal of sustaining a vibrant state economy. Launched in 2007 as part of a sweeping legislative change, the bridge between school boards and the local workforce helps keep Florida's economic engine churning, and more importantly, gives students an excellent opportunity to find gainful employment when their school career ends. It's a program that helps Florida Business thrive. … [Read more...] about Florida’s Unique Approach to Talent Development

How to Focus on Work After a Tragedy

by Cade Kennedy Leave a Comment

work sucks

Works sucks. Work sucks more on a Monday. Works sucks a ridiculous amount more after a vacation. But do you know when work sucks the most? It's after a senseless and incomprehensible tragedy. Trump. Mother Nature. Lone Wolf, asshole. Whatever. There's nothing like a shitstorm to cast a fleeting light on your own mortality. And of course the life and death of those you love. … [Read more...] about How to Focus on Work After a Tragedy
