Would you like to get more out of your work day rather than just seeing each day as one step closer to the end of the work week? Here are a few ideas:
How we start the day makes a big difference to how the day goes. For example, rolling out of bed at the last minute will make you feel unprepared and like you are catching up all day. Find a way to start the day well that works for you. Could you get up earlier and meditate? Exercise? Or have enough time to exercise before you go to work.
2. Create A Plan
Having a plan for the day really helps you to get the most out of the work day. Without a plan we are like a ship without direction. Using a diary or a planner helps you to prioritise and be clear what needs to be done (and what could be dropped if necessary).
3. Take Breaks
Taking breaks at work is vital for your mental and physical wellbeing. If you work at a desk it is worth stepping away from your desk regularly and having a stretch or even just goimg for a walk to the kitchen. Rather than working through lunch or eating at your desk, make sure you get out of your office or workspace – it makes such a difference. You will feel rejuvenated and recharged and better able to tackle your afternoons work.
4. Enjoy Yourself
How can you bring more enjoyment to your work day? Even if work seems like a hard slog, there is usually something you can do to make the day more enjoyable. A nice coffee at lunch or asking your boss if you can work on a project you are interested in? Have a look and see what you can do to bring more enjoyment to your work day.
5. Acknowledge Achievements
Many of us are very good at seeing what still needs to be done, but less adept at acknowledging our achievements. Getting into the habit of acknowledging your achievements at work makes a big difference to your motivation and sense of job satisfaction. You could write down three things that you have achieved in your work day at the end of the day. A great habit to get into!
6. Tie Up Loose Ends
Getting into the habit of tying up loose ends at the end of the work day helps to bring closure to each day and create a good start for the next day.
