Contender #4:
Rachel Kokosenski, M.Ed. is a Career Counselor/Coach with over eight years of experience. She has written thousands of resumes, coached hundreds of job applicants, and provided thousands of hours of training to job applicants of all levels of education and skill sets.
The Process:
Rachel worked independently. The process was quick and painless. I sent my resume, and she sent me back the new version. Case closed.
Along with the revision, Rachel said the following:
“I would also like to suggest that you put the ‘select career highlights’ information into your cover letter, rather than your resume.”
The final version can be downloaded or viewed below.
Opinions:
ANDREW G.R.: Nice touch moving the blogs to the top and providing a description of each. Rachel certainly understood my primary goal of pushing my freelancing blogging ability. The only thing missing is the dact that these are blogs I am ‘paid’ to write for.
MOM: Similar layout to the original but with several notable improvements. I think the beginning is very strong.
CAREER COACH JEN: If the saying is “You had me at hello,” this resume lost me at “Objective”. Objectives are old school, providing the employer with a snapshot of what YOU want, rather than taking the opportunity to paint a picture of why the employer should want YOU (as is done much more effectively with a modern summary statement).
DAD: Jobacle and Working Podcast write up is weak. A few examples of success would be nice.
JOBACLE WRITER LAUREN: Finally hit the jackpot on the content of the resume. The objective was geared towards freelance opportunities and the first listed experience was the blog experience. The piece that was missing for me was the aesthetics of the resume. Combine Resume #1’s format with this resume’s content, and I think I might have a favorite.
ANDREW G.R.: Working Podcast description is pretty weak.
CAREER COACH JEN: The content in the rest of this resume pretty much mirrors the original content, with the choice to increase emphasis upfront on your blog contributions. Big error in chronology on page 1, with your more recent website and podcast work following your earlier work at FOX News Channel.
DAD: I would de-emphasize earlier work experience.
