Baseball season is upon us, meaning day games galore for the sports fan. Unfortunately, most of us are stuck at work for the majority of the day, meaning very few opportunities to enjoy this time of year. Baseball season is especially tough on those of us working in an office or cubicle every day. If you can’t make it to the game, or your favorite sports bar – why not bring the atmosphere to your office?
Some of us are lucky enough to have bosses that are bigger sports fans than we are, but for the most part, you have to be careful to not attract too much attention when turning your office into your sports sanctuary. But through some carefully selected appliances and décor, you should be able to enjoy your favorite sports without catching any heat.
Here are three rules for turning your office into a sports sanctuary along with the items you’ll need to pull it off.
1. Always have a cold drink available
Ever been to a ball game and not have something to drink? We’re not recommending you “drink” at work – at least not while on the clock – but a cold soda or glass of water can do go a long way to enhancing the experience.
What you need:
* Mini Fridge: Perhaps the very best option, if you can pull it off in your office. With the different sizes and colors available, there are plenty of options that would look tasteful – and even partially hidden – in an office.
* Portable Ice Maker: Easier to get away with than a mini fridge, a portable ice maker can sit quietly in your office ensuring that your drinks will remain cool without wasting a ton of your time or energy. Running back and forth to the refrigerator can be a pain, and would probably attract a bit of attention. These portable ice machines can make up to 35 pounds of ice per day – more than you’ll ever need.
2. Don’t Miss Another Game
That’s the whole point here, right?
What you need:
* MLB.tv: Baseball season is upon us, which means day games galore. Through MLB TV you can watch any and all out of market games live on your computer. MLB even offers HD streams of games that are clear enough to make you forget you’re stuck in the office until 5.
* Flo TV: MLB.tv is great, but you’re going to need something else if you’re planning to really never miss a game. FLO TV has some of the best available mobile channels, including ESPN, ensuring that you’ll never have to excuse yourself from the conference room again just to check the score.
3. Show your team pride (without alerting the boss)
This can be one of the trickiest parts of creating a sports haven at work. You have to show off your team colors, but subtlety is of the utmost importance.
What you need:
* Team Business Card Holder: While you take pride in your team, you still don’t want to broadcast to the whole company that your office is now a sports haven. A team-specific business card holder is a sophisticated and classy way to show your pride without letting on that you may not be the most productive staff member.
* Autographs: Another classy way to show off your sports pride is through displaying some of your favorite autographed collectibles. Let’s face it, sports fans are suckers for autographed stuff. And some of your favorite pieces can make for great office décor. You have to be careful, though, as there are a lot of fake pieces out there, so it’s important to know when you’re being scammed.
