The recession has left many people jobless, hopeless, and camped out on their parents’ couch. It is having a major impact on people’s priorities, especially for potential university students who are starting to look at job security when choosing a career path.
The number of people having to move back in with their parents as they struggle in a tough job market is on the rise. No one wants to do this, and we all need our independence, but the cost of living with food and rent prices increasing is shooting up. If you don’t want to end up back home, take a look at this list of growing job fields crying out for people – and you know what, they pay well too.
Environmental Engineering
By engineering I don’t only mean the oil and gas industry, although they are incredibly lucrative, I mean environmental engineers as well. Environmental engineers work to prevent pollution and minimize its effects.
They use their engineering education to better the environment, provide people with clean drinking water, and reduce pollution. In a world where global warming is the term on the tips of everyone’s tongues this field has become incredibly significant.
Medicine
We will always need doctors, but not everyone can become one or even wants to be one. So why not look at something like physical therapy? Or any of the other growing professions that make up the medical field, for example, nursing, counselling (of all kinds,) pharmacy, and bio medical engineering.
Bio medical engineers work to make the prospect of creating human organs a reality. Nursing as a profession is growing immensely as it is a very broad line of work. Counselling is expanding for the same reason; there are so many different directions you can take in the field, including family therapy, marriage counselling, school counselling, and the obvious psychiatry, to name just a few.
Digital & Online
We all know the internet plays a huge role in our society, and it’s only getting bigger. While the internet is relatively young inthe grand scheme of things, it has already created a plethora of job opportunities. From internet moguls like Mark Zuckerberg to web designers to app creators, there is such a huge variety of jobs available.
Entire business sectors have sprung up to fill the need created by the internet, why not take advantage of it?
One example of business that has formed to stem this need is IT services companies. It seems these days that if a business wants to be noticed (or to stay in business) they need a website.
While retail stores and restaurants, for example, don’t need their own IT departments they do need to be online to promote their business. This is where IT service companies come in as for those that know about digital marketing, cloud hosting, design and colocation, London or one of the other major cities beckons. This is a field that is constantly growing and will only produce more and more interesting job opportunities.
Does the field you work in offer steadfast job security?
