Ever get the feeling your J.O.B. is going to be the death of you? Well guess what- you might be on to something! By combining mounting evidence and common sense we finally have PROOF that holding down a steady 9-5 is the biggest risk you could ever take! Work kills.
1. Lack of Control- It’s Worse Than You Think!
Did you know feeling like you’re in control of your life is actually good for your health? It’s true! When you feel in control of your life your hormone balance changes, flooding your system with feel-good chemicals and a biological cocktail that encourages ambition and toughens up your immune system.
Well, guess what? When you feel out of control the opposite happens! Your body cuts off those feel good hormones and downshifts your immune system!
So- how often do you feel in control at work?
2. Bad Jobs = Bad Health Habits
Does your job stock its pantries and vending machines with health food or junk food? Do you get to exercise during the day, or are you stuck in a chair from dawn till dusk? How often does your job let you eat a real breakfast and a real lunch, and how often do you have to just toss back muffins, bad coffee and fast food at your desk?
3. Developing Toxic Relationships, or Time to Meet Your Co-Workers!
If you’re lucky you only will only hate one of your co-workers, but if you’re like most people you spend your days with a bunch of people you wouldn’t share a drink with if your life depended on it! Complaining with your co-workers all day and complaining about your co-workers all night takes its toll- a social life based around complaining has been linked to depression and anxiety.
4. Are You Addicted to Your Job?
The internet’s made life better in a whole lot of ways, but it also makes it easier than ever to stay hooked to your job 24/7. What’s the longest YOU’VE been without checking in for “just a minute” when you should be relaxing and enjoying your life?
5. Your Job Is HUNGRY for Your Time!
Even if you’re able to cut the chord when you’re off the clock, just how often are you really out of the office these days? Workweeks are scaling up as workforces shrink and new responsibilities get divvied up and passed around. The more time you spend at your job, the less time you have to live your OWN life!
6. No Dreams? No Life!
Sure, your job helps pay the bills, but does that matter if it kills your dreams in the process? Your job may not kill you outright, but if it’s slowly crushing your dreams then it’s doing something even worse- it’s making you one of the living dead!
7. Whose Life are You Making Better?
I hate to break it to you, but when you’re working for someone else you’re making THEIR life better, and not your own! Remember- it’s not just about the years in your life, it’s also about the life in your years! So stop giving up YOUR life to make your boss, and their boss, and their boss happy, healthy and wealthy while you waste away!
