5 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Lunch Break

5 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Lunch Break

1. Make Sure You Take Your Break

Pretty obvious, but one that we’ve all been guilty of not doing at one time or another I’m sure! Get in the habit of taking your break. There’s always more that can be done, but by actually taking a break you are much more likely to be efficient when you return.

2. Eat Healthily

It can be tempting to quickly eat a sandwich or whatever is easiest or graze on snack foods throughout the day whilst at work, but taking the time to plan a healthy lunch is important for your health. Be proactive and plan what suits your tastes, health and budget and ensure you take time to eat well during your workday.

3. Nap

Not getting enough sleep? Getting enough sleep, but know you benefit from a nap? Either way, napping is a win-win. I know it isn’t always easy to find somewhere to nap when you’re at work, but with a little creativity there is often somewhere you can find. I used to take a nap in my car when I worked in my last office job. I would drive to a quiet road and set an alarm on my phone for half an hour later. I always felt great afterwards and much more productive once I got back to work. I often take afternoon naps and it helps me feel good and gives me that extra boost to do more work.

4. Work on Your Dreams

If you don’t feel that you have enough time in your life to do the things you really want to do (starting a business, writing a book, for example), using your lunch break to get started is a great way to utilize that extra time in your week. An hour a day means five hours a week and two hundred and forty hours a year for a full time worker. Imagine what you could do with that time, when you put your mind to it!

5. Be Mindful

If you are interested in cultivating mindfulness and peace of mind why not use your lunch break to do this? You could meditate (in the car again if need be!) or just use the time intentionally to be in the moment and enjoy the time you have. You could practice eating your lunch mindfully as this is a great way to get started!
