It’s one thing to be a woman and lose custody of your kids. It’s another not to even show up at the hearing and pretend you want them back!
The eighth best-selling female artist in American music history might not have much to teach us about life – except about how NOT to behave. Here are four ways to make sure you accelerate your career by not being like Britney Spears.
Put Yourself First
In order to keep harmony between your mind and your body you must listen to your body. This includes sleeping when tired, eating when hungry and being kind to yourself.
We understand it’s not easy for poor Britney with the Paparazzi breathing down her neck and all. But you don’t have people camping outside your house, do you? So you have no excuse.
Make time for yourself and you will think clearer, make better decisions and put your career on the right track.
Under the Influence
And we’re not talking about that flask of tequila in that bottom drawer. You must operate as an individual and not be influenced by others. It’s one thing to poll people you trust in order to make an educated decision, it’s another to let co-workers gas your head with nonsense that just leaves you feeling drained.
Stars rely on entourages for many reasons – most of them unhealthy. After you punch out and hit that pillow at night, only YOU know what’s best for you. You must be in tune with your values, beliefs and desires – not what others think works for you.
Accountability
Unfortunately, finger pointing is prevalent in all aspects of our lives (ah, that’s why they roll with an entourage!). Take responsibility for everything you say, everything you do and everything you think.
In most cases, where ever you are in your career is due to actions you took. Stand up right now and claim it all. The good, the bad and the in between. It’s not your parent’s or your boss’s fault. The finger is pointing one way – and it’s at you. If you are desperate for a change, make it happen NOW. But don’t turn around and blame Jobacle in a month if it all goes south!
Comfortable With Yourself
While not easy, being comfortable in your own skin will help give you the confidence you need to make difficult decisions on your own. You’ll feel good about taking risks and own up them when they go wrong. Of course, you’ll give yourself a hug when it works out for the best.
This is a trait you will find in all successful business people.
Think of these four items as vital organs necessary for a body of success. Each one needs the other to operate at optimal efficiency.
Regardless of how you feel about Britney Spears, one thing is for sure: We guarantee you wouldn’t add her on to your payroll. Unless of course your only other choice was OJ Simpson.
What advice do you have for your fellow cube dwellers? How would YOU be the anti-Britney?
